Urban Design

Complex challenges and the large variety of people involved in those, call for a multi-disciplinary, co-operative approach to Urban Design. In the face of these issues architects, urban and regional planners, landscape architects, environmental planners as well as sociologists have to cooperate closely. The two-year master’s program Urban Design is a field of study positioned at the juncture of these four disciplines. Based on historical and international experiences, it responds to the prevailing challenges of urban development, city and town planning as well as sustainability.

At the TU Berlin, Urban Design as a unique discipline with a clear professional focus and a transdisciplinary syllabus. The degree program is also offered as a dual master’s program in co-operation with the Tongji University in Shanghai / China.

Twenty students are admitted to the dual degree program of which ten students will be Chinese. All participants taking part in this special program will study collectively in Berlin and Shanghai for one year each.
